What if the goal of an audition isn’t to get the job?

In this powerful conversation with Steve Cuden at Point Park University, Bryan Cranston explains the mindset shift that fundamentally changed the way he approached auditions.

Instead of walking into the room wanting something from casting directors, Cranston began thinking of himself as being there to give something: his preparation, his interpretation of the character, and his work as an actor. The distinction removed much of the pressure surrounding auditions and allowed him to concentrate on the one thing he could control: the performance.

Cranston also addresses another familiar challenge for working actors: professional jealousy. His advice offers a useful perspective on confidence, comparison, rejection, and building a long-term creative career.

This clip, which is from when Steve interviewed Bryan Cranston on November 16, 2016, before an audience of several hundred students at Point Park University, was posted on YouTube by Gollypon.
